With Sharm being off limits to British divers due to the airport security issue for the past few years we were delighted to be one of the first BSAC clubs to return in March 2020. Little did we know that travel to Sharm would close down again within days of our return due to the Covid-19 pandemic! So we were very fortunate to enjoy five days of great diving in the glorious Red Sea. Staying at the superb Tui Magiclife Hotel and diving with Easy Divers (for the third time) a great time was had by all. The group comprised Sue and Pete Hayward who kindly organised the trip, Paul and Lizzie Bulmer, James Mercer, Chris Ambrose, Rachel Hamer, Alan Ward, my wife Jan and myself Richard Mercer. Dive sites were remarkably empty and we would often be the only boat moored. Even on the world famous Thistlegorm! We dived many of the well known Sharm sites including the Tiran reefs and Ras Muhammad. Coral and fish life seemed to be in pretty good condition. The weather was consistently hot and sunny and sea conditions mostly calm. We were only “blown out” on one day – but Paul and Lizzie still made it to the Thistlegorm that day despite be recalled to port before being turned around again! All in all a great weeks diving with a great SSAC group that managed to squeeze into a very narrow window of opportunity to dive Sharm in 2020.
